Lockmeadows’s weekend of fun, (including a spaghetti eating competition!) culminated in the White house Chrysler Jeep Power Team Challenge’s 5th Annual Strongman Competition. As ever, standards were extremely high as participants from all over the country pushed and pulled they’re way to victory.
Teams of two competed against each other with local boys Jay Hughes and Mick Holding coming in second, having been join leaders up to the last event - the ‘loading race’ where competitors have to load objects into the back of a 28 tonne truck. In particular was their efforts with the tyre flip, which comprises flipping three different weight tyres with the biggest weight over a tonne ( the equivalent of a family saloon car), which kept them in the contest right until the end. Jay said "I came first last year and forth the year before, hopeful this second place means were in good stead for next years first."
It was Terry Hollands and Paul Wood, last years defending champions, who eventually beat the pack and to win the £1200 prize. Lockmeadow, with its location and wealth of bars, restaurants and leisure faculties is a perfect venue for such events, and supported the festival with a two full days of free entertainment, all of which was enjoyed by a record-breaking crowd. |
